Introduction to Electric Circuits : Worked Examples from the Electric Circuit Study Applets with CD
This manual contains detailed solutions to typical problems generated by the Electric circuit studyb applets. The electric circuit study applets provide practice problems similar to the examples, exercises and end of chapter problems from the textbook introduction to electric circuits, sixth edition by C. Dorf and J.A. Svoboda. The CD that accompanies this manual contains the electric circuit study applets themselves as well as many, many more worked examples than fit into this manual.rnIn each problem, tha applet asks a question, then accepts and checks the user’s answer. Students are provided with immediate feedback. Correct methods are reinforced and misconceptions are corrected quickly. More feedback can be obtained by using the show answer, button to see detailed solutions to similar problems.rnParameter values are chosen randomly, so the electric circuit study applets generate a seemingly endless supplyof practice problems. The worked examples provide detailed solutions to typical problems from the applets. Because the applets use random parameter values, the worked examples provides solutions to problems that are quite similar to, yet different from, the problems generated by the applets. Together, electric circuit study applets and the worked examples are an effective guide to learning about electric circuits.rnThere are 29 problems sets in the electric circuits study applets, covering a variety of the topics discussed in introduction to electric circuits, sixth edition. These 29 problems sets are listed in the table of contents of this manual. A set of worked solutions corresponds to each problem set. Each set of worked examples has three parts: a description of the type of problems in that set, references to the pertinent sections in introduction to electric circuits, sixth edition and, finally, detailed solutions to typical problems.rnThe worked examples are available in two ways. First, in each applet, the button labelled worked examples provide access to the corresponding worked examples from within that applet. Second, the entire set of worked examples is available, outside of the applets, on the CD that accompanies this manual.rnThe interactive problems are closely integrated with introduction to electric circuits, sixth edition. Many of the example problems from this textbook are included in the electric circuit study applets, although the random number generator will have changed the values of resistances, capacitances and other circuit parameter. The solutions provided in the worked examples use the techniques described in the textbook.rn
