Principles of Electric Circuits : Electron Flow Version

Thomas L. Floyd - Personal Name;

This second edition features the popular pedagogy of Principles of electric circuits, third edition (conventional flow version). Each chapter begins with a list of objectives, a chapter overview, and a list of sections. A section review follows each section within a chapter to reinforce key concepts and to provide frequent feedback on the student’s comprehension. Answers to these section reviews are given at the end of each chapter.rnAt the end of each chapter, there is a summary and a list of formulas. The self test at the end of each chapter (with solutions at the end of the book) allows students to check their comprehension of the chapter. The problems sets are grouped by section for easy reference and assignment. Answer to selected old numbered problems appear at the end of the book.rnA lab manual, experiments in electric circuits 3/e by Brian Stanley contains 26 dcexperiments and 25 ac experiments that are cross referenced to this text. Like the text, this lab manual has been extensively revised based on user feedback. Procedural steps have been added where appropriate, and while the experiments do not require theory beyond that presented in the text, original thought by the student is encouraged. The manual has its own solutions manual.rnA solution manual for this text provides completely worked out solutions to all end of chapter problems. Also provided is a transparency package that includes transparency masters and two color overlay transparency acetates. New to this edition is a testbank of questions available inprinted or computerized (for the IBM) form. Contact your local Merrill representative for copies of these supplements.rnPrinciples of electric circuits, Electron flow version, can be used in several ways to accommodate a variety of scheduling requirements. Some suggestions are as follows:rno A two semester dc/ac sequence can cover most of the book, although some selectivity may be necessary, depending on class requirements. Chapter 1 through 10 are covered in the first semester. Capacitors and inductors (Chapter 13 and 14) can be covered at the end of the first term, if desired, by delaying coverage of the ac topic in Section 13-6, 13-7, 14-6, and 14-7 until the second semester.rno A two quarter dc/ac sequence can cover much of the book by light treatment or omission of selected topics, depending on the course objectives and emphasis. Since program requirements vary greatly, it is difficult to make specific suggestions for selective coverage. However, a few general recommendations are as follows:rn1. Assign Chapter 1 for outside studyrn2. Omit computer analysis sectionsrn3. Lightly cover most of Chapter 8 and 9rn4. Lightly cover Chapter 10, 19, 20, and 21rn5. Omit Chapter 22rnSuggestions for light treatment or omission do not imply that the topics are less important than others, but only that, in the context of a specific program, they may not require as much emphasis as the more fundamental topics. Obviously, requirements vary from program to program so that content decisions must be tailored to fit your programrno A one term dc/ac course can cover the more fundamental topic s by selectively omitting a number of areas as follows:rn1. Omit Chapter 1 or assign as outside readingrn2. Omit Chapter 8 and 9 (except Thevenin’s theorem perhaps)rn3. Omit all of Chapter 10 except topics necessary for the study of inductancern4. Lightly cover transformers (Chapter 15)rn5. Omit Chapter 19, 20, and 21rn6. Omit computer analysis sectionsrn7. Other topics throughout may be lightly covered or omitted, depending on program requirements. rn
