A reviewofthestage-of-the-artchargingtechnologies,placement methodologies, andimpactsofelectricvehicles
The worldpopulationdependshighlyonfossilfuels,particularlyfortransportationandpowergenera-
tion. Thisdependencyleadstooilpriceincreasesbecauseofthedepletionoffossilfuels.Burningoffossil
fuels alsoincreasesgreenhousegasemissionsthataregreatlyresponsibleforglobalwarming.Thus,
electric vehicles(EVs)areconsideredoneofthepremiumsolutionsinthelandtransportationsystem
because theycansignificantly reducethedependencyoncrudeoilandminimizetransportation-related
carbon dioxideemissionsalongwithotherpollutants.Thisstudypresentsanextensivereviewofthe
three keyareasofEVresearch,namely,EVchargingtechnologies,thevariousimpactsofEVs,andoptimal
EV chargingstation(CS)placementandsizing.SeveraltechnicalpublicationsrelatedtoEVcharging
technologies arehighlighted,andtheperformancecomparisonofdifferentEVtechnologiesisdiscussed.
A reviewofliteratureonthesekeyareasrevealsanincreasinginterestinthesetopicsinthelastdecade,
with theimpactsofEVontheelectricpowersystemandtheoptimalplacementandsizingofCSissues
widely investigated.Byprovidinganoverviewoftheseareas,thisstudydemonstratesthecurrentissues
and challengesofwidespreaddeploymentofEVsinthemarketaswellasthefutureresearchdirectionin
this field. Atotalof185publicationsarearrangedandappendedforquickreferencing.
